So the future hubbs finished up grad school for architecture almost 3 weeks ago. (Phew, am I glad that's over!) One of the perks of marrying an architect is that they are quite handy with a computer and a laser cutter.
When we got engaged and started talking about different elements that we wanted to incorporate into the day from our heritages (his: Mexican, Romanian & German, mine: predominately Irish), we both quickly settled on having the Mexican celebration tradition of papel picado (translation: perforated paper). It is used often for festivities year-round like Dia de los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo. I love papel picado, the dainty details and strong imagery chiseled delicately into fine tissue paper and strung together to make a banner. So whimsical. We used these as inspiration for our save the dates:

Aren't they gorgeous?
And here they are...
I was inspired by these. (She even went as far as screen printing the fronts of each one - that's dedication!)
Alex designed the edge detail and laser cut the cards.
I used a typewriter once all of the cards were cut (I was afraid to run them through our printer).
A labor of love for those near and dear. While admittedly this took a bit longer than we would have liked, the actual assembly was not very difficult. It was the prep work, decisions and troubleshooting that ate up almost 3 weeks. All the same, I would do it again in a heartbeat. We love the way they turned out.
I hope you enjoyed!
Maureen
